Apples, Cinnamon, and Your Liver: A Doctor’s 7-Food List

Date:

A Florida-based digestion expert has shared a list of seven powerful foods for liver health, highlighting the potent combination of apples and cinnamon. This simple pairing is a powerhouse for metabolic support.

According to the gastroenterologist, “Apples give pectin (soluble fiber) and polyphenols.” Cinnamon, he adds, “contains compounds studied for supporting insulin sensitivity and healthier lipid levels.” Together, they help manage the metabolic load on the liver.

The list includes other foods that support metabolism. Raspberries are rich in fiber and anthocyanins, which help regulate blood sugar and fat processing. Beetroot contains betaine, a nutrient that specifically helps the liver process and move fat out of its cells.

The doctor also emphasizes the importance of the gut-liver axis, recommending cranberries for their prebiotic polyphenols. Pomegranates are also on the list, suggested to help calm inflammatory signals.

Finally, the expert suggests watermelon with lime to boost blood flow. Even a treat of strawberries with dark chocolate (70% cocoa) is recommended for its high flavanol content, which supports blood vessel function.
