An Israeli strike on the Nuseirat camp, the “second in a week,” is rattling the fragile Gaza truce. This escalation comes as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu lays down a new law: Israel will veto “unacceptable” nations from the international peace force.
Hamas condemned the strike as a “clear violation” of the Trump-brokered agreement. Israel claimed it targeted Islamic Jihad militants.
As the truce frays, Netanyahu is asserting control. He declared Sunday that “Israel will determine which forces are unacceptable to us,” a position he says the US supports.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in Israel, backed this, stating the force must be “comfortable” for Israel and must exclude Hamas.
The ceasefire is also under pressure from a slow exchange of remains, which has prompted a public warning from Donald Trump to Hamas.
