Tech-Driven Court Decision Upholds Trump’s $5.8M Payment to E. Jean Carroll

Date:

A federal appeals court in the United States has denied former President Donald Trump’s request to postpone the disbursement of $5.8 million to writer E. Jean Carroll. This decision upholds the outcome of Carroll’s 2023 sexual abuse and defamation lawsuit against Trump, which resulted in a monetary judgment in her favor.

The court’s ruling follows Trump’s attempt to overturn a lower court decision that had ordered the release of the funds. These funds, totaling $5.8 million, have been held in a court-managed account during the appeals process. The amount encompasses the initial $5 million judgment awarded to Carroll, along with the interest that has accumulated since.

This development comes on the heels of the U.S. Supreme Court’s recent decision to decline hearing Trump’s appeal, effectively maintaining the original judgment. Judge Lewis Kaplan emphasized that the legal proceedings have reached their conclusion and that it is now appropriate for the judgment to be fulfilled.

Throughout the legal battle, Trump has consistently denied the allegations made by Carroll and has continued to dispute the legal interpretation of the agreement concerning the release of the funds.
