In a bid to bolster economic and defense ties, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has called for renewed vigor in the relationship between Türkiye and the United States. Speaking at the “100 Years of Friendship Gala” in New York, Erdoğan emphasized the importance of closer dialogue and collaboration between the two NATO allies amidst ongoing global conflicts and crises.
Erdoğan outlined several areas ripe for expanded cooperation, including nuclear energy, liquefied natural gas, civil aviation, high technology, and the defense industry. He stressed the need to dismantle obstacles impeding the partnership and to explore opportunities for joint defense production. Highlighting Türkiye’s burgeoning defense sector, he noted a significant rise in the country’s defense exports, which have surged from approximately $248 million two decades ago to over $10 billion, and expressed confidence in Türkiye’s potential to become one of the top 10 defense exporters globally.
The event, attended by U.S. Senator Chris Coons and other senior officials and business leaders from both nations, underscored the long-standing diplomatic and economic ties between Türkiye and the United States. Senator Coons highlighted the crucial role of business ties and entrepreneurship in reinforcing bilateral relations.
Additionally, Erdoğan urged U.S. investors to seize new opportunities in Türkiye, citing Ankara’s competitive incentive framework designed to attract foreign investment. He announced a new investment initiative aimed at stimulating economic growth and fostering a more robust investment environment.
Erdoğan’s comments reflect a strategic push to enhance Türkiye’s role on the international stage while strengthening its economic and defense partnerships with the United States.
