Innovative 100 V GaN Power Stages Enter Mass Production for Motor Drives

Efficient Power Conversion (EPC) has commenced mass production of its groundbreaking 100 V integrated gallium nitride (GaN) power-stage IC family. This innovative line includes the EPC23108, EPC23109, EPC23110, and EPC23111 models, which are specifically designed to enhance high-performance motion-control applications. By integrating high-side and low-side eGaNĀ® FETs, gate drivers, and level-shifting circuitry into compact, thermally optimized QFN packages, these ePowerā„¢ Stage ICs aim to boost power density and efficiency while simplifying system design.

Capable of operating up to 100 V, the devices offer current ratings of 35 A and 20 A depending on the model, and feature fast fault shutdown, safe gate control during power-loss conditions, and continuous 100% duty-cycle operation. The family also offers single-input PWM options tailored for multi-axis motor-control applications. In conjunction with these ICs, EPC also introduces the EPC91128, EPC91129, EPC91130, and EPC91131 three-phase BLDC motor-drive evaluation boards. These platforms incorporate gate drivers, current and voltage sensing, housekeeping power supplies, and temperature monitoring and protection functions, designed to complement the new power-stage ICs.

EPC’s latest devices are readily available through its global distribution partners, such as Digi-Key and Mouser. They target a broad array of applications, including humanoid robots, drones, industrial motor drives, medical equipment, synchronous rectification, and high-density DC-DC converters. Pricing for the EPC23108 and EPC23109 is set at $3.70 each, while the EPC23110 and EPC23111 are available at $2.47 each, based on purchases of 3,000 units. The evaluation boards, EPC91128 and EPC91129, are priced at $640 each, with the EPC91130 and EPC91131 slightly lower at $630 each.

To support the launch, EPC is releasing a detailed technical white paper in both English and Chinese, offering insights into the architecture, design considerations, and evaluation platforms for these new integrated GaN power-stage ICs. Founded in 2007, EPC specializes in enhancement-mode gallium nitride (eGaNĀ®) power devices and integrated circuits, focusing on GaN-based power solutions for various applications, including DC-DC converters, lidar, motor drives, robotics, drones, and satellite systems.
